CCTV captures cars being destroyed in 'deliberate fire' at garage

A garage has released unbelievable CCTV footage of someone setting fire to sales vehicles on their property on Monday night.

James Moore, a partner at NGM Garage and MOT Centre in Rogiet, explained that two vehicles were "fully burnt" and a third partially damaged after the incident, which happened shortly before 9pm.

The footage released by the garage appears to show an individual pouring an unidentified substance over the vehicles and lighting a flame before leaving the scene.

Emergency services were called to the scene, with Mr Moore, 32, praising the efforts of firefighters.

He said he is "very grateful" to the local community for alerting the fire service and for their "extremely quick response time."

He added that it could have been "an awful lot worse with so many residential properties surrounding us."

Mr Moore also explained that the incident left him feeling "awful."

"The feeling is strange," he said.

He described how the garage had worked extremely hard to build a successful business during the pandemic, only for this to cause a set-back.

Officers from Gwent Police are now investigating the incident, and are asking anyone with information to come forward.

A spokesperson for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "At approximately 8:37pm on Monday, January 4, 2021, we received reports of a vehicle fire in Ifton Lane, Rogiet.

"Crews from Chepstow and Caldicot station attended the scene and extinguished the fire.

"A stop message was received at approximately 9:26pm."

A statement from Gwent Police said: "Officers are investigating following a deliberate fire in the forecourt of NGM Car Sales, Ifton Lane, Rogiet at around 8.45pm last night (January 4).

"A blue Fiat Panda and a white Fiat Punto were damaged by the fire along with a fence.

"Anyone with any information is asked to call us on 101 quoting reference 2100003894 or send us a direct message via social media.

"Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
