CCTV captures burglar during night-time raid at a Welsh park's cafe

Police are investigating after a laptop, a mobile phone, chocolates, sweets and a quantity of cash were stolen from a tea shop at a town centre park.

The incident happened at around 8.30pm on Tuesday, March 3 at Carmarthen Park.

The town council, which runs the park, says someone encroached a public fence on adjoining Morfa Lane and forced their way into the tea shop, located near the main gates.

Many items were taken from inside the tea shop, including a Lenovo laptop, a Nokia mobile phone, and a “significant amount of sweets and chocolates”.

Other confectionery and an unknown quantity of cash was also taken.

The mayor of Carmarthen has spoken of his disappointment that someone would want to steal items from “the local community”, especially from a spot popular with families and children.

“It is disappointing and extremely frustrating that one individual has seen fit to break into and steal items that in reality belong to the local community,” said mayor, Jeff Thomas.

“I am certain the people of Carmarthen will be equally concerned to hear about this and will be keen to provide us with any information that may help catch this burglar.

"A significant amount of sweets and chocolates were taken, and someone will inevitably know about this and who could be responsible.”

The incident has been reported to police, who are now looking into the matter.

A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: “We have received a report of a burglary overnight at The Tea Shop, Morfa Lane, on Tuesday, March 3, and are now investigating.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Carmarthen Police by calling 101, or by getting in touch with Carmarthen Town Council.
