The ACT government has installed two solar-powered CCTV cameras at the Mount Taylor Nature Reserve carparks to target illegal dumping, theft and property damage offences.
Police minister Mick Gentleman said one CCTV camera was located at the carpark on Walcott Street in Pearce where illegal dumping had occurred.
The second camera was at the carpark on Sulwood Drive in Kambah where vandalism and car theft had been reported.
Mr Gentleman said there were 17 other solar-powered CCTV cameras in the ACT "to keep Canberrans and their property safe".
Others were on roads leading to rural areas in the ACT, the Jerrabomberra Wetlands, the National Arboretum Canberra, Woden Town Square and the Canberra City.
"The CCTV cameras at Mount Taylor are part of the government's Public Safety CCTV Network. Live and recorded footage from the CCTV cameras is available to the government for public safety, criminal investigation and court proceedings," Mr Gentleman said.
The Mount Taylor cameras would be in place for 12 months "at which time their ongoing requirement will be reconsidered".
