A CCTV camera in a common close cost a Motherwell knife carrier a year in jail.
Kenneth Watson was sentenced at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.
He admitted carrying a blade in Emerald Terrace, Bellshill, on May 12, 2019.
Neil Thomson, prosecuting, said police were investigating a disturbance about 6.20pm.
They reviewed footage that showed a man they recognised as Watson in the common close with a large kitchen knife. It had a blade of 4-6 inches.
Defence agent Craig Grimes admitted Watson, 45, is “no stranger to the courts”.
Sheriff Daniel Kelly told Watson, of Kylemore Crescent, Motherwell: “The courts take a very serious view of people carrying knives.
“Sometimes there is room for leeway, but you have five previous convictions for similar offences so you’ll go to prison for 12 months, reduced from 15 because of your guilty plea.”
