CCTV appeal after woman's purse is stolen from Tesco toilets in South Shields

A woman's purse was stolen after she accidentally left it behind in the toilets of a supermarket.

An investigation was launched after the woman reported the theft from the Tesco store on Towers Place in South Shields, South Tyneside, on February 6.

She had entered the toilets and left her purse on the shelf before leaving the area.

When she realised, she returned to the toilet but the purse, which contained cash, bank cards and other personal items, was gone.

Officers have now released a CCTV image of a man they believe could help with their investigation.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "As part of their ongoing enquiries, officers have identified a man they would like to speak to in connection with the theft.

"He was in the store at the time of the offence and could have information that can assist officers with their enquiries.

"The man, or anyone who recognises him, is asked to contact us via the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of our website quoting log 412 060220. Alternatively, you can email 1118@northumbria.pnn.police.uk."
