Police are hunting a woman after a shopper was racially assaulted during an attempted robbery in a supermarket in north London.

The victim, in her 20s, was queuing at the till in a shop in Tottenham Retail Park when the suspect physically assaulted her and began shouting racial abuse, Scotland Yard said.

As she attempted to call police during the ordeal, the suspect tried to snatch her phone, claiming it was hers.

Supermarket security intervened and the victim was given her phone back.

The suspect then fled the scene on a bike.

Officers rushed to the scene at around 8pm on August 11 following reports of the incident.

There, they spoke to the victim who had suffered minor injuries during the attempted robbery.

The suspect is believed to be approximately 5ft 5ins tall with brown hair, and was wearing a baby blue mini floral dress and a blue face mask, police said.

Detectives have released a CCTV image of a woman they wish to speak to.

Detective Constable Natalie Starkey, investigating, said: “We take all allegations of racism and assault very seriously and my team is keen to speak to anyone who was involved or who witnessed this incident.

“I would also appeal to the woman in the image or anyone who knows her to contact us."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting CAD 8609/11Aug.
