CCTV appeal after woman is kicked in the chest on train after having coins thrown at her

A woman was assaulted on a train by a man who threw coins at her and then kicked her in the chest.

The incident occurred on board a train travelling between Newcastle and Chester-le-Street on the evening of April 6.

It was reported that a man was throwing coins at a woman on the 10.22pm service following a verbal altercation.

He threw another coin at the woman at Chester-le-Street which provoked the woman to challenge his behaviour.

The man then proceeded to kick the woman harshly in the chest, causing her to fall from the train and onto the platform.

She sustained bruising to her chest, elbow and hip.

Officers have now released an image of a man they believe could help them with their investigation.

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: "Officers believe the man shown in this CCTV image may have information which could help them investigate.

"If you know who he is, please contact BTP by sending a text to 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 1900029454. Or you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
