CCTV appeal after woman, 63, has her purse stolen from her handbag in Aldi

An investigation is under way after a woman's purse was snatched from her handbag in a supermarket.

The 63-year-old realised her purse was gone when she tried to pay at the till of the Aldi on Cumbrian Road, Cramlington.

Police have been carrying out enquiries into the incident at around 1.15pm on May 22 and have now released a CCTV image of two people they want to speak to.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "Police have now identified a man and a woman who they would like to speak to in connection with the alleged theft.

"They were known to have been in the supermarket at the time of the incident, and could have vital information that could assist officers with the investigation.

"The woman or man, or anyone who recognises them, is asked to contact police via 101 and quote reference number 518 22/05/19 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
