Police release images of three men who 'may have witnessed' robbery at Tesco store in Tameside - staff were threatened by thugs with hammers

Police have released images of three men who 'may have witnessed' a robbery at a Tesco store in Tameside.

The CCTV appeal has been launched after two robbers armed with hammers threatened staff store before driving off in a stolen Mini.

The offenders also took cash from the safe and till, cigarettes and alcohol from the store on Stockport Road, Gee Cross.

Police have now released images of three men who they believe 'may have witnessed' the robbery.

They entered the store around the time of the incident, a detective constable said.

The robbery happened on November 2 (GMP)

Officers were called to the scene at around 9.45pm on Monday, November 2.

In a statement, GMP said: "Two men armed with hammers threatened three members of staff and demanded money from the safe and tills.

"A bag containing personal items and keys to a white three-door Mini parked outside the store were stolen.

"The offenders then made off in the Mini with cash, cigarettes and alcohol."

No one was injured in the robbery.

Det Con Susannah Holt, of GMP's Tameside CID, said: "Thankfully no one was injured during this robbery where staff who were just doing their job were threatened with hammers.

"They were understandably left shaken and we're now appealing to members of the public to come forward if they recognise the men in the CCTV images.

Police want to speak to the men in the CCTV images (GMP)

"At this stage, we believe these men were witnesses because they entered the store around the time of the robbery.

"The offenders are described as two white men with Manchester accents, wearing khaki green North Face jackets, dark jogging bottoms and trainers.

"One was wearing a black balaclava and the other was wearing a black scarf covering his face."

Anyone who has any information about the robbery is asked to call police on 0161 856 9262 quoting crime reference number GG/0020135/20.

Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
