CCTV appeal after series of supermarket thefts in Northumberland

An investigation is under way after a series of thefts at supermarkets in Northumberland.

Shortly after 2pm on December 21, police say a man entered the Co-op on Moor Farm Roundabout in Cramlington and filled a basket with joints of meat.

The man then left the shop without paying and got into a waiting red Renault Clio, before making off.

Two hours later, the same man returned to the same store and filled another basket with meat before leaving in the same vehicle.

Three weeks earlier on December 2, officers were called to Asda on Cowpen Road in Blyth following a report that two men had entered the store and attempted to walk out with a trolley full of goods.

The pair were intercepted by staff and the goods recovered, but the men made off in a red Renault Clio.

An investigation is ongoing into both incidents which police are currently treating as linked.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "As part of their enquiries, officers have now released images of three men they would like to speak to in connection with the thefts.

"They were known to have been in the area at the time of the respective incidents and could have vital information that can assist officers

"The men, or anyone who knows them, are asked to call 101 quoting reference 160469A/19 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. Alternatively, you can email  136@northumbria.pnn.police.uk ."
