CCTV appeal after Sainsbury's cash point in Sunderland is vandalised with claw hammer

An investigation is under way after a cash point at a supermarket was damaged in Sunderland.

Police were called after a report of damage caused to an ATM at Sainsbury’s on Silksworth Lane overnight on March 28.

It is believed that a woman had approached the cash machine and smashed the screen with a claw hammer, before leaving the scene on a bicycle.

Officers say no money was taken during the incident.

Police have now released a CCTV image of a woman they want to speak to.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "An investigation has been launched into the incident, and as part of their enquiries, officers have now released an image of a woman they would like to speak to.

"She was in the area at the time of the offence and may have information that can assist officers with the ongoing investigation.

"The woman, or anyone who recognises her, is asked to contact police via the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of our website quoting log 133 280320. Alternatively, you can email 1274@northumbria.pnn.police.uk."
