CCTV appeal after poppy box stolen on Remembrance weekend

Police have issued CCTV of a man they wish to speak to after a poppy collection box was stolen this Remembrance weekend.

A man walked into a butchers on Mill Lane in West Derby on Saturday morning and took the fundraising pot.

Officers probing the theft have now released a photo of a man they believe could help their enquiries.

The incident unfolded at 9.30am and a police spokeswoman described the suspect as being a white male with black hair and black framed spectacles on top of his head.

He was wearing a dark-coloured winter coat over a grey-coloured top with a motif on.

The theft came the day before Merseyside stopped to commemorate the fallen, with socially-distanced and virtual tributes taking place across the region this morning.

*Anyone with information about the theft is asked to contact Merseyside Police on Twitter (via @MerPolCC), or by calling 101. You can also contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111, quoting reference 0487 of Saturday, November 8.
