CCTV appeal after Metro worker is assaulted at South Shields station

A Metro worker was assaulted while challenging a passenger about travelling without a ticket.

The incident was reported to police and they have launched an investigation.

Shortly before 6pm on August 11, police received a report that a man had been acting aggressively at South Shields Metro Station.

It was then reported that the man had pushed a male employee after being confronted over travelling without a valid ticket.

The victim was uninjured but officers are trying to locate the suspect.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "Now, as part of their enquiries, officers have identified a man they would like to trace. He was in the station at the time of the offence and could have information that can assist the investigation.

"The man, or anyone who recognises him, is asked to contact police via the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of our website or by calling 101 quoting log 957 110820. Alternatively, you can email 3975@northumbria.pnn.police.uk."
