CCTV appeal after Metro employee was racially abused in South Shields

An investigation is under way after a Metro employee was racially abused.

The incident happened at South Shields Interchange on March 10, after 3pm when the staff member refused entry to a passenger who failed to show a ticket.

The member of staff was then verbally abused with offensive racist slurs, police said.

Enquiries to trace those responsible are ongoing but Northumbria Police have now released an image of a man they want to speak to.

A spokesperson for the force said: "He was in the station when the incident took place and could assist police with their enquiries.

"The man, or anyone who knows him, should contact officers on 101 quoting log 603 10/03/21 or email 1026@northumbria.pnn.police.uk."
