CCTV appeal after man suffers 'serious neck injury' in city centre attack

A "shocking and unprovoked attack" left a man with a serious neck injury after being punched in Liverpool city centre.

Merseyside Police confirmed that at 1.50am on April 2, it was reported a man approached a 35-year-old man and punched him once, knocking him to the floor. It is believed he followed the victim from Rubber Soul bar on Mathew Street to Rainford Square, outside Hardy's - where the attack happened.

The man was treated in hospital for a serious neck injury and is now recovering at home, but requires ongoing treatment. Merseyside Police are continuing to investigate the assault and have since issued CCTV footage of a man they believe may be able to assist with their enquires.

Detective Inspector Neil Dillon said: "This was a shocking and unprovoked attack on a man on a night out who was visiting Liverpool, and had every right to go out and enjoy an evening without being subjected to this attack. We have now issued moving footage of a man as we believe he could have information that may prove vital to our enquiries. We believe the man may be from outside the Merseyside area.

"If you recognise this man, or witnessed any part of the incident, then do let us know as any information you hold could prove vital in our efforts to bring those responsible to justice.
