Appeal after man is knocked unconscious in late-night Bigg Market assault

Officers investigating an assault which knocked a man unconscious in Newcastle city centre.

Shortly after 9.15pm on Saturday October 30, Northumbria Police received a report of an unresponsive man in the Bigg Market, Newcastle.

Officers attended the scene near the Bigg Market chippy, where members of the public had been administering CPR before paramedics arrived.

The man, aged 46, was taken to hospital having sustained a bleed on the brain and a serious head injury.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident and have already spoken with a number of witnesses and reviewed CCTV.

As part of their inquiries, they have released an image of two men who were in the area at the time of the incident.

Officers are asking those pictured to come forward and assist with the investigation.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "The man, anyone who knows them, or anyone with information they think could help, is asked to contact police by either calling 101 or using the 'Tell us Something' page on our website, quoting log 120496V/21."
