CCTV appeal after man is grabbed by the throat on a Metro in North Shields

Police have launched an investigation after a man was assaulted on a Metro train in North Tyneside.

Shortly before 5.40pm on January 8, officers received a report of an assault on a Metro travelling between Longbenton and Meadowell.

It was alleged that a man had grabbed a 33-year-old man by the throat before leaving the train.

Officers have now released a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to in connection with the incident.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "An investigation is ongoing into the incident, and as part of their enquiries, officers have now identified a man they would like to speak to in connection with the incident.

"He was believed to have been on the train at the time of the assault and could have valuable information which would assist officers with their investigation.

"The man, or anyone who recognises him, is asked to call 101 quoting reference number 845 08/01/20.

"Anyone with information about the incident can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
