CCTV appeal after armed robbers in face masks threaten staff at Wythenshawe Morrisons

A robber wearing a chilling face mask stormed a Morrisons supermarket armed with a hammer and left staff terrified in a cash raid.

He was with a second man who also had his face covered and was wielding a machete.

Police said staff at Morrisons on Hollyhedge Road in Wythenshawe were threatened and subjected to a 'a terrible ordeal'.

CCTV images of two men detectives want to speak with have now been released.

The armed robbery happened shortly before 8.45pm on Thursday, September 5.

A GMP spokesman said: "Offenders entered the store brandishing a machete and a hammer and made threats to staff.

A police investigation is underway (MEN)

"They fled the scene with a quantity of cash.

"No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.

"Police have released images of two men they want to speak to following the incident."

Detectives said no one was injured.

Officers are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Constable Keiron Richardson said: "This was a terrible ordeal for the store's employees to endure.

"While no-one was injured, the psychological effects of crimes such as this can be considerable, and our thoughts are with those involved.

"Do you recognise either of the people in the pictures we're releasing?

"One of the individuals is wearing distinctive gloves and face covering.

"If you have any information that can assist us, please get in touch as soon as possible."

No further details have been released.
