CCTV appeal after Antony Gormley sculpture at Newcastle University is vandalised

An investigation is under way after an Antony Gormley sculpture was vandalised in Newcastle.

Police have released images of two people they need to speak to after the work of art, which is currently erected outside Newcastle University, was daubed with graffiti.

The statue is on loan to the university from the Antony Gormley Studio and the cost to clean the artwork was £8,000, police said.

Officers believe the damage was caused at around 10pm on March 31 and inquiries to identify those responsible is ongoing.

Now they have released images of a male and female they need to identify.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "They were in the area at the time the damage is believed to have been caused and could assist the inquiry.

"The man and woman, or anyone who knows their identity, is asked to contact Northumbria Police through their website quoting log 749 31/03/21.

"You can also call 101 or email the investigative team on 4275@northumbria.pnn.police.uk."
