CCTV appeal after a 23-year-old man was left fighting for life following city centre fight

A man was left fighting for life after a fight in Newcastle city centre.

At around 3.20 am on July 8 police received a report of a fight in Times Square and when emergency services arrived, they found that a 23-year-old man in a serious condition.

He was taken to hospital by paramedics where he received treatment for a life-threatening head injury.

The man survived but he has suffered life-changing injuries and remains in hospital.

Northumbria Police have now released CCTV images of a man they want to speak to.

A spokesperson for the force said: "An investigation into the assault is ongoing but police have now released a man they need to trace.

"He was in Times Square at the time of the incident and may be able to assist police with their enquiries.

"The man, or anyone who knows him, should call police on 101 quoting log 74 08/07/19 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

"You can also report online at the Northumbria Police website or email the investigating officer on  1530@northumbria.pnn.police.uk ."
