Former Ipswich council CEO Carl Wulff charged with corruption

Carl Wulff resigned as Ipswich City Council CEO in 2013.

Former Ipswich City Council CEO Carl Wulff has been charged with corruption as part of the Crime and Corruption Commission's ongoing investigation into the local authority.

Mr Wulff, 65, of Brookwater, was arrested on Thursday afternoon by CCC officers and charged with official corruption and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

The CCC also charged a 50-year-old woman with corruption.

The ABC understands she is Mr Wulff's wife, Sharon Oxenbridge.

Both will appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on October 24.

Mr Wulff resigned from Ipswich City Council in 2013 and then took a position as CEO of Liverpool City Council in Sydney.

He left that position in March 2016 amid a controversy over asbestos contamination.

The CCC investigation has already resulted in charges being laid against Ipswich council CEO Jim Lindsay, senior officer Craig Maudsley and council contractor Wayne Francis Innes.

It is alleged between August 2016 and September 2017, Innes paid former CEO Jim Lindsay, who is also facing a charge of official misconduct, a sum of money to facilitate a change of use to a development application at Austin Street in Redbank Plains.

Mr Innes' landfill company Landfill Logistics has had several contracts with the council.

The CCC will also allege Mr Maudsley tried to dishonestly gain a benefit for Mr Innes.

The string of arrests follows the resignation of the city's longtime mayor Paul Pisasale, who is also facing multiple charges by the CCC, including extortion.

Mr Pisasale's next court appearance is set down for November 13.
