CBS switched away from the Chiefs game in Kansas City and fans were furious

It takes a lot to shut down Patrick Mahomes, but CBS managed to find a way on Sunday.

During the fourth quarter of the Chiefs’ season opener against the Jaguars, CBS told viewers that it was switching away from Chiefs-Jaguars for a “more competitive” Browns-Titans game. That switch oddly included viewers in the Kansas City market who almost certainly had no interest in watching the Browns bandwagon melt down instead of their hometown team’s game.

After first framing the switch as a CBS decision, the broadcast later told viewers that the network was experiencing technical difficulties in Jacksonville.

Needless to say, Chiefs fans were not understanding. They were furious.

This was obviously the last thing CBS would want, but there’s really no excuse for a technical difficulty taking 20-plus minutes. It leads to local affiliates (which have no control over the game) getting bombarded with angry calls and tweets. The game never did return.

It was an embarrassing start for CBS all around.
