CBS Sports believes Doug Marrone’s seat is hottest among NFL coaches in 2019

Doug Marrone is entering his third season as the Jacksonville Jaguars head coach, and so far it’s been a mixed bag. He nearly led his team to the Super Bowl in his first year as head man, which is no easy task; however, his second year was a hugely disappointing 5-11 season. And while it’s hard to gauge leeway the front office will give him, Will Brinson at CBS Sports believe his seat is the hottest of any coach in 2019.

Check out what they had to say about the veteran coach in their recent hot seat rankings:

When the Jags cratered to 5-11 last year, it was somewhat surprising that the front office/coaching core remained intact. So much of the blame for last season was dropped on the quarterback (Blake Bortles), and his replacement (Nick Foles) will have plenty of pressure in 2019. The defense also has to return to its AFC Championship Game form if the Jaguars want to make a leap up in the AFC South standings. Going 9-7 or better would almost ensure Marrone’s safety, but it’s easy to imagine the reset button being pressed in Jacksonville if this team goes out and finishes 7-9 or worse.

The Jags overhauled their coaching staff around Marrone and invested a lot of money into upgrading the quarterback position, so really all that is left in terms of a half-measure approach is to make a move at the head coach position. That said, he should be aiming for a nine- to 10-win season — anything less would warrant change. In fact, if the Jags fall short of nine wins Shad Khan would probably be wise to sweep the whole front office, too, because that would ultimately mean they missed on their investment in Nick Foles and failed to accumulate the right type of offensive talent around him.
