Big things are expected out of the Tennessee Titans offense in the upcoming 2019 season.
CBS Sports’ Jared Dubin and other network experts, including Will Brinson, John Breech, Ryan Wilson, and Sean Wagner-McGough, recently ranked each of the 32 NFL teams’ offensive triplets.
The Titans’ threesome of quarterback Marcus Mariota, running back Derrick Henry and wide receiver Corey Davis fell toward the middle of the pack, finding a place at No. 20.
“Mariota is like Winston, but with fewer turnovers and fewer explosive plays,” they wrote. “He probably has the best skill-position group surrounding him this year that he has ever had, and in the fifth-year option of his rookie deal, it’s pretty much now or never to prove he’s the Titans’ guy over the long term.”
This is a fair ranking, given Mariota’s injury history and overall inability to stay consistent on the field. Now on the fifth and final year of his rookie deal, general manager Jon Robinson has put all the necessary pieces together to give the signal-caller a fair evaluation.
Henry started off slow last season, but finally came into his own and recorded a record-breaking year full of new personal bests. It’s important he carries that momentum into a new season.
Davis is well on his way to becoming a star NFL wideout, and was one of Mariota’s favorite and most reliable targets last year. He saw action in all 16 games of 2018, and recorded 65 receptions for 891 yards.
All three players will be in action in an open OTA on Thursday.
