CBS Sports ranks AFC South RBs third-worst in NFL

The Indianapolis Colts are expected to have a complete backfield with diverse talents, but the division as a whole didn’t get a whole lot of love in CBS Sports’ recent rankings.

In ranking the RBs using the collective division, the AFC South came in sixth, third-worst of the eight divisions. Here’s what they said about the Colts:

Mack has looked good as the lead back for the past couple seasons, but he’s also struggled with several injuries. The Colts maintain that he’ll be involved in a committee this year, but they didn’t draft Taylor at the top of the second round to give him 1B work. He should be the lead guy by mid-season, if not earlier. Hines is an excellent fit with Philip Rivers, but might find it difficult to get an Austin Ekeler-level of snaps.

Here’s how the rest of the divisions ranked out:

1. NFC East
2. AFC North
3. NFC South
4. AFC West
5. NFC North
6. AFC South
7. NFC West
8. AFC East

The division seemingly has a lot of talent. Derrick Henry was one of the best running backs in the league in 2019. Leonard Fournette had a strong season despite only having three touchdowns. The Colts have a strong duo in at the top of their backfield and if David Johnson gets healthy, he could still be a force for the Texans.

The division also boasts a nice trio of pass-catchers in Hines, Duke Johnson and Chris Thompson.
