CBS Orders Young Sheldon Spinoff Focused On Georgie And Mandy

New CBS spinoff featuring Georgie and Mandy from Young Sheldon.

CBS has officially greenlit a spinoff of the popular series Young Sheldon, which itself is a prequel to The Big Bang Theory. The new spinoff will center around Georgie, Sheldon's older brother, and his fiancée Mandy as they navigate life while raising their young family in Texas.

The project, which has been in development since January, has now received a straight-to-series order from CBS. The show will be produced by the executive producers of Young Sheldon, including Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro, and Steve Holland. The new series is set to be part of CBS' lineup for the 2024-25 season and will be a multicamera show, in contrast to the single-camera format of Young Sheldon.

This spinoff marks another milestone for Chuck Lorre, as it ensures he will have a series on CBS for a remarkable 22nd consecutive season, dating back to the debut of Two and a Half Men in 2003. The announcement of the spinoff comes as Young Sheldon and Lorre's other CBS comedy, Bob Hearts Abishola, are both in their final seasons.

In a joint statement, Lorre, Molaro, and Holland expressed their excitement about continuing the stories of the Cooper family through the perspective of Georgie and Mandy. CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach also shared her enthusiasm for the new series, highlighting the success of the characters developed by Lorre and his team.

Additionally, Lorre and Warner Bros. TV are working on another spinoff related to The Big Bang Theory for the streaming platform Max, although details about this project remain under wraps. The Young Sheldon spinoff is one of CBS' three straight-to-series pickups for the upcoming season, alongside NCIS: Origins and Watson, a medical drama with a Sherlock Holmes connection.

Furthermore, CBS will feature the Kathy Bates-led Matlock reboot and the multicamera comedy Poppa's House in its lineup, both of which were delayed due to last year's labor strikes but have now received series orders.
