CBS News executive Kimberly Godwin has been chosen to lead ABC News, the network confirmed Wednesday.
Why it matters: Godwin will be the first Black woman to lead a major broadcast news division. Last year, Rashida Jones was named president of MSNBC, becoming the first Black executive to lead a major cable news network.
Details: The 14-year CBS veteran replaces longtime ABC News President James Goldston, who left the network this January.
- Godwin will report to Peter Rice, chair of Disney General Entertainment Content.
- According to a statement from ABC, Godwin will oversee editorial and business operations for broadcast, digital, streaming and audio across ABC News, which encompasses everything from "Good Morning America" to "The View.”

What to watch: Godwin's hire comes as reports are circulating that her current colleague, CBS News chief Susan Zirinsky, is planning to step down in the coming days or weeks to return to a role producing content.
