Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers fired at a man who attempted to flee from an inspection at a Southern California port of entry.

Border Report detailed that the incident took place on Monday night in southeastern San Diego. Then, a 59-year-old man entering the U.S. from Mexico was referred to a secondary inspection.

He tried to flee but couldn't leave the lot and proceeded to drive south, nearly striking three officers who proceeded to fire their weapons. He eventually stopped and surrendered. He was not shot but did get injured by the broken windshield.

San Diego Police Department Arturo Swadener said the suspect is a U.S. citizen who is currently in custody and will face federal charges.

"Several officers were screaming and yelling commands for him to stop, he failed to listen to those commands at which point the officers felt the need to fire, discharge their service weapons," the officer said.
