RANCHI: The CBI on Friday arrested three persons, including two senior officials of Rail India Technical and Economic Service Limited (RITES), in connection with a bribery case involving a sum of Rs 2.72 lakh.
In a press statement, the central agency said the arrested persons are identified as general manager (project) RITES Abhay Kumar, senior deputy general manager (project), RITES, Kumar Rajiv Ranjan.
The other in CBI custody is an employee of Hardev Construction Private Limited (HCPL), Deoghar, Sashi Kumar. They were produced before the special court in Ranchi, which remanded them to police custody.
Earlier on Thursday, CBI had registered a case in connection with the case and arrested the owner of HCPL, Avtar Singh, and the other accused a day later.
The central agency reportedly charged the accused persons with conspiring to collect illegal gratification during a tender process. An employee of a private company reportedly handed over the bribe money to the senior DGM RITES and the money was subsequently handed over to the GM, RITES. The amount, Rs 2,72,500, was recovered from the GM on Friday.
The CBI also conducted searches at 12 places of the accused in Ranchi, Patna, Deoghar, Gurgaon and Ramgarh which led to the recovery of cash amounting to Rs.65.5 lakh, property documents and other incriminating documents.
