BHOPAL: A 42-year-old railway officer posted as office superintendent at Bhopal DRM office was on Monday arrested by a team of CBI officers in an alleged bribery case.
Accused Mukesh Kumar Bhagat was posted in the settlement section, said sources. He has been accused of demanding Rs 25000 from a retired employee for clearing his pension dues and allowances.
After confirmation of a complaint received, CBI officials registered a case. After negotiations Bhagat agreed to clear the dues for Rs 20000. He was causing an undue delay in clearing the dues to pressurise the complainant.
Team led by ASP Atul HaJela laid a trap and arrested Bhagat accepting the said amount. Other CBI officers in the team were Inspector Satish Barwal, Inspector Abhishek Sonekar, inspector R K Sathi, inspector Indresh Kumar and Sub Inspector Subash Tomar.
Bhagat has been charged under various sections of prevention of corruption act. A subsequent search was conducted at his office and residential premises. He will be produced before CBI special court on Tuesday.
