CBI arrests Hyderabad-based Midhani AGM in scrap theft case

HYDERABAD: The CBI has busted a major racket in Hyderabad-based Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (Midhani) involving senior officials and private scrap dealers. The accused were diverting valuable raw, finished and semi-finished material clandestinely from Midhani to the godown of the scrap dealers, the investigation agency said.

Seven persons have been arrested in connection with the theft and sale of scrap, the CBI said. The arrested included an assistant general manager of Midhani, an assistant commandant and a constable of Telangana State Special Protection Force, and two scrap dealers.

The CBI intercepted a vehicle while transferring 950 kg of precious material and caught two scrap merchants stealing metal scrap.

Scrap dealers paid bribe to Midhani & SPF employees

The accused have been identified as AGM (security and administration) Midhani, S Narasing Rao, SPF assistant commandant Ravinder Reddy and SPF cop Saripalli Prem Kumar, who was the vehicle driver.

Bathkola Murali and Nasa Deekshithalias Sunny, temporary Midhani employees, were also arrested. The CBI registered a case against the scrap merchants — Mohammed Nayeem Nayyar and his brother Mohammed Waseem Nayyar — of Zain Steel India scrap godown, Hyderabad.

The accused conspired with others, including temporary and casual employees to divert the material clandestinely from Midhani to the godown of the scrap dealers, the CBI alleged. “Scrap merchants agreed to pay illegal gratification to the employees,” it said. The CBI conducted searches at six locations in Midhani and other premises. Details of payments made by the scrap merchants to employees and officials were recovered.
