CHANDIGARH: The CBI arrested a fire officer while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 in Sector 36 market on Thursday.
Accused Surjit Singh is posted at Sector 38 fire station.
Sources in the CBI said, “Surjit was demanding bribe for issuing a fire department no objection certificate (NOC) to a Sector 36 showroom owner. After receiving the complaint, the CBI recorded the calls between the accused and the complainant. A trap was laid in Sector 36 market around noon. As the accused accepted the bribe amount, he was arrested red-handed.” The CBI also conducted searches in his office. It is the second arrest of an UT official in a graft case by the CBI within 10 days. On May 18, a senior assistant officer of CHB was arrested while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.
