CBeebies to launch kids' mag

The BBC is launching a magazine based on its digital channel for pre-school children, CBeebies.

CBeebies Weekly will feature presenters from the channel as well as characters such as The Tweenies, Teletubbies and The Fimbles.

The BBC said the magazine would build on the CBeebies' philosophy of "learning through play".

Children will be able to use stickers that come with the magazine to fill out a pull-out reward chart.

The magazine will also include a TV guide designed to "create anticipation and excitement about the programmes".

Richard Deverell, who was today appointed as the new controller of the BBC children's department, said the magazine would "enable us to develop a deeper relationship with our viewers".

"It will enhance a child's enjoyment of CBeebies, encouraging real interaction between the child and the programmes, as well as helping parents to get the most out of the learning potential of CBeebies whilst still having lots of fun," he said.

The magazine will have an educational editor to ensure its content reflects children's developmental needs.

CBeebies Weekly goes on sale on March 22 and will cost £1.75.
