CBeebies announce Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl as latest star to read a Bedtime Story

CBeebies has revealed Foo Fighters' front man Dave Grohl as the next famous face to read a Bedtime Story for the children's channel.

The rocker's rendition is based on the lyrics of the world famous Beatles song, Octopus' Garden.

Written by Ringo Starr and illustrated by Ben Cort, the book follows five children as they make their way through the cephalopod's home.

The CBeebies Bedtime Stories are read at 6:50pm every evening as part of the Bedtime Hour, to help children settle down before going to sleep.

Dave has recorded two stories for the pre-school channel, the first of which will air on Friday 8th October.

The singer said: “As a proud father of three, I’ve always enjoyed reading stories to my children. It was a pleasure to read these stories for CBeebies.”

And it seems the channel were just as delighted as CBeebies Grown-ups tweeted: "It’s times like these you love to be a parent," in reference to the Foo Fighter's smash-hit song.

Of course you don't have to be a parent to tune in.

One excited fan of the band tweeted: "Thank you cbeebies & team. What a brilliant booking. We're very excited - and a lot of my non-parent friends are too! #EverybodysWelcome right?"

Dave is following in some very famous footsteps as he makes his debut on the channel.

Dolly Parton, Sir Elton John, Felicity Jones and Tom Hardy are just some of the stars who have lent their voice to the BedTime Story.

Despite being one of the world's most successful musicians, Dave, 52, recently revealed how his dad disowned him as he dropped out of school in a bid to make it in the music industry.

While he wasn't to know just how successful his son would turn out to be, the rocker admitted he told him at the time that playing an instrument doesn't make you a musician.

Dave, who also used to be Nirvana's drummer has sold more than 30million records and has won five Brit Awards and 11 Grammys.

Speaking about his dad's decision, he said he wasn't allowed to play music during his school years as he was failing academically.

Talking at London's Savoy Theatre on the first night of his one-man tour to promote his memoir titled The Storyteller: Tales Of Life And Music, he said: "I wasn’t allowed to be a musician. We had that painfully awkward conversation about what I was going to do with my life.

"I didn’t know what to say but I knew this was it. I wrote a runaway note. This began the separation between my father and I."

CBeebies Bedtime Stories is on weekdays at 6.50pm on the CBeebies channel and is also available on BBC iPlayer.
