CB Robert Alford, recently released by Falcons, should warrant attention from Cardinals

The Atlanta Falcons released cornerback Robert Alford on Wednesday after six seasons with the team. Because he is a vested veteran, he will not be subject to waivers.

The Arizona Cardinals will not be able to acquire him with their No. 1 priority on waivers. However, considering their need at cornerback, he should get some attention.

Alford is 30 years old but has been a starter for the last five years. He had a down season in 2018 but has 10 career interceptions and 85 career broken up passes.

He is expected to get attention from a number of teams and very well could have a new contract before free agency even begins.

The Cardinals do not have a second starting cornerback on the roster right now and that position has been a revolving door.

Alford, though, likely will not come cheaply, especially if there are many teams interested. He was due to make $8.5 million in 2019.
