CB Phillip Gaines officially re-signs with the Browns

A few days after several reports indicated it was going to happen, the Cleveland Browns have indeed reached a contract agreement with cornerback Phillip Gaines.

The veteran originally joined the Browns during the 2018 season when injuries ravaged the secondary. He was waived by the Buffalo Bills prior to Week 10 and played primarily special teams for the Browns, except a big role vs. the Houston Texans.

Gaines, who turns 28 next month, was originally a fourth-round draft choice by current Browns GM John Dorsey during his time at the helm of the Kansas City Chiefs. He offers length at 6-1 and clocked a 4.34 40-yard dash at his pro day at Rice, but it’s never translated into being more than an NFL reserve.
