The Jets are bringing back cornerback Darryl Roberts.
According to The Daily News’ Manish Mehta, the Jets and Roberts have agreed to the terms on a new deal. However, the terms of that contract can’t be released until the new league year begins on Wednesday.
The 28-year-old cornerback was solid last season at both cornerback and safety when he had to play for the the injured Trumaine Johnson and Marcus Maye. Roberts appeared in all 16 games and started 10 of them. In those games, Roberts had 48 tackles, seven pass defenses and one interception.
Roberts is a nice backup to have in the secondary. However, with Morris Claiborne and Buster Skrine both being free agents this offseason, Roberts could get more playing time next season. Expect the Jets to make other moves at the position, though.
With this move, the Jets have five cornerbacks on their roster with Johnson, Roberts, Rashard Robinson, Parry Nickerson and Derrick Jones.
