Cavs officially obtain Korver in exchange for Dunleavy, Williams and draft pick

NEW YORK _ Kyle Korver is officially a Cleveland Cavalier.

After two days of trade speculation, the Cavs and Hawks both announced the completed deal Saturday, which sends Mo Williams, Mike Dunleavy and a 2019 first-round pick to the Hawks in exchange for Korver, a career 43 percent 3-point shooter who turns 36 in March.

The pick is top 10 protected in both 2019 and 2020, according to one league source. If it hasn't transferred by then, it becomes two second-round picks in 2021 and 2022.

Korver must still pass a physical, but one source said the Cavs are hopeful he can join them in time for practice Monday in Phoenix. That would allow for his debut to be Tuesday at the Utah Jazz. But the timetables are fluid and nothing is yet definitive. He is not expected to be ready for Sunday's game against the Suns.

Cavs coach Tyronn Lue called Korver one of the league's three best shooters when coming off screens, ranking him alongside the Warriors' Klay Thompson and Steph Curry.

"Especially a guy who can move without the ball the way he moves coming off screens and things like that, there's no better guy," Lue said. "You put him on the floor with Channing (Frye), RJ (Richard Jefferson), LeBron and the floor will open wide, so now you got to pick your poison when you try to help off Kyrie and LeBron."

Kyrie Irving believes the Cavs will get Korver even better looks than he did with the Hawks.

"A lot of spacing and a lot of opportunities for him to be more open than he was in Atlanta," Irving said. "No disrespect to them, but for us we just have continuity in our offense and guys that can make plays that are willing to give up the basketball and unselfish brand of basketball that we play. I could only imagine him coming off those pindowns. Whether he's open or not, we're telling him to shoot it. Every shooter that comes here, we tell them Bron's statement: 'If a guy's not in your numbers, then you're open.' "

Due to cross-country flight schedules, Cavs general manager David Griffin will address reporters about the trade on Sunday.
