Cavendish Street in West Belfast cordoned off after 'pipe bomb' found

Police cordoned off a West Belfast street after a pipe bomb-type was found on Friday.

It was found on Cavendish Street off the Falls Road, however was later declared a hoax.

Residents were evacuated by police.

One told Belfast Live: "People have been evacuated to nearby St Paul's. The streets are cordoned off and cars are not allowed in or out."

A PSNI spokesman said: "The security alert at Cavendish Street in West Belfast has ended. A suspicious object was examined by ATO and declared a hoax.

"All residents have been allowed home and roads re-opened. Any information about this incident can be given to police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
