Cavan community in mourning after death of 'lovely, friendly and talented' young man Jason Cobey

A Cavan community has been plunged into mourning after the tragic death of young man Jason Cobey.

Jason, aged in his early 20s, died suddenly this week with his friends and family left devastated.

The Crosskeys local was described as a "lovely, friendly and talented" with tributes flooding in since his passing.

Local GAA club, Denn GFC, of which Jason was a member, offered their condolences to the family with a poignant tribute.

A spokesperson said: "It is with great sadness that we as a club and community inform you of the sudden death of Jason Cobey brother to our current player Leon.

"We express our deepest sympathy to his heartbroken parents Gerry & Elaine, brother Leon, his Grandmothers, Aunts Uncles Cousins and extended Cobey & Cusack family including his large circle of friends.

"Jason was a great young man full of fun and always wore a smile that lit up the lives of all who knew him.

"Jason played football on our juvenile teams and was a teak tough corner back on the Crosskeys NS winning team in 2010, comfortable in the company of several of our current players.

"Jason wore his Club colours with pride and respect. With the current guidelines around Covid for all our safety, we ask all in our community to raise your Denn flag to remember Jason and to help reassure the Cobey family that we are thinking about them in these difficult days.

"A book of condolences will be available at the club this evening (Tuesday) from 7pm - 9pm. Anyone wishing to come along and avail of this can drive around the pitch to the new stand where a number of officer will be on hand to help and exit on the top gates."

Friends and family also paid their respects to the young man online.

The funeral mass for the young man will take place on Friday morning, although due to restrictions, the service is private for family and close friends.
