In the final hour before Thursday's league trade deadline, the Cavaliers acquired one of the biggest names on the market, agreeing to a deal for Detroit Pistons center Andre Drummond, a league source confirmed.
The Cavs gave up little for Drummond, with the source confirming they sent guard Brandon Knight and center John Henson to the Pistons, along with the lesser of two 2023 second-round picks _ either Cleveland's own or one via Golden State.
Both Knight and Henson are playing on expiring contracts, Knight's worth $15.6 million, Henson's $9.7 million. Drummond's contract pays him $27 million this season.
Drummond, 26, is expected to opt out of the final year of his contract this summer that would pay him $28.7 million in 2020-21. Only 30 games remain on the Cavs' schedule, but it's not out of the question that they could try to re-sign Drummond, the Pistons' ninth overall pick in 2012.
Center Tristan Thompson, the Cavs' longest-tenured player, is in the final year of his contract.
Drummond has averaged 17.8 points, 15.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 49 games this season, shooting .530 from the field and .584 from the free-throw line. For his career, his averages are 14.4 points, 13.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists, hitting .541 from the field and .460 from the line.
