Cause of 'raging fire' at Long Eaton industrial site revealed by fire service

Fire chiefs have revealed the cause of a 'raging fire' which broke out at an industrial building in Long Eaton.

Crews from more than fire 10 stations were called to the Meadow Lane area following reports of the blaze, which started at around 4.45pm on Monday (July 27).

Residential, industrial and domestic properties were temporarily evacuated as firefighters managed the blaze, which started in a car garage off the nearby Chatsworth Avenue.

Eye-witnesses reported smelling burning before hearing a "large explosion" at the site.

A spokesman for Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the likely cause of the blaze.

He said: "The most likely cause was identified as accidental, due to sparks from an industrial process coming into contact with combustible materials."
