Cause of fire near Nottingham retail park revealed

The emergency services have revealed what caused a fire which sent plumes of black smoke billowing into the sky near a city retail park.

Smoke could be seen across Nottingham at around 12.33pm on Saturday, May 30, after a fire started in Brand Street, near Lady Bay retail park.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said the incident began in an industrial building.

A spokesperson for the service said: "Two pumps from London Road Station and a third from West Bridgford attended a fire in an industrial premise on Brand Street, Lady Bay.

"A concrete shredding machine fire had spread to two industrial skips. Firefighters used three main jets and two hose reel jets to extinguish."

The fire had been put out by around 1.30pm and fire crews were seen dampening down.

Nottinghamshire Police set up a cordon around the scene while the fire was tended to.
