Cause of fire involving two cars 'thought to be deliberate'

The cause of a fire which engulfed two cars in a residential road is thought to be deliberate.

Firefighters from Southmead were called to attend reports of a fire in Charlton Road in Brentry in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday, April 14).

After arriving on the scene, the fire crew extinguished the fire which had left both vehicles badly damaged.

Avon Fire and Rescue has since confirmed the incident is likely to have been an arson attack.

A fire service spokesman said: "At 2.39am, one crew from Southmead fire station were mobilised reports of a fire on Charlton Road in Brentry.

"On arrival, firefighters found a fire involving two vehicles.

"Crews used two breathing apparatus for safety, and one high pressure hose reel and small gear to extinguish the fire.

"The cause is thought to be deliberate."
