Carrick Rangers, who lost the match 3-0, released a statement saying that both the club and McIntyre apologize "for any distress caused." The club also stated it would "endeavor to make contact with the ball boy and his family."

Local media reported that the Northern Ireland Police Service is continuing its investigation into the matter.

Despite the incident, the referee did not issue McIntyre a booking.

"Any internal disciplinary investigation will, in accordance with employment good practice, remain confidential between the employee and employer," Carrick Rangers added.
