Catt Sadler didn't mean to be a voice for gender equality _ she wanted to share her truth.
The TV host penned a personal essay for Coveteur on Friday, writing that speaking about her departure from E! over the pay disparity between she and Jason Kennedy was a personal crusade because it was just plain unfair.
"I didn't start out on a crusade to be a voice for gender equality in the workplace; I didn't have grandiose plans to organize powerful people and roar about equal pay. For me, at that time, it started out as simply the 'right thing to do,'" she wrote.
"I didn't want to disappear from people's television screens after all those years and vanish into thin air without sharing my truth. For me, in those moments, it was important to explain how I had been wronged and how I knew in my core that to stay would mean collaborating with an evil system," Sadler, 43, continued. "Swallowing my values was not an option."
Sadler said things have been "remarkable" since leaving the network, referencing her name being called out on the Golden Globes red carpet.
"I was completely stunned, humbled, and frankly moved to tears more than once that day," she continued.
Sadler left E! in December after nearly 12 years on the network.
"Not only did (E!) refuse to pay me as much as my male counterpart, but they didn't come close _ nowhere close, not even remotely close," the former "Daily Pop" host told People at the time.
It is unconfirmed how much more Kennedy made than Sadler, but a source close to Us Magazine revealed that Sadler made around $600,000 per year, while Kennedy was making nearly $1.2 million.
E! cited different job responsibilities for a difference in pay, but would not release details of their salaries.
