Geelong legend Corey Enright has jumped ship to St Kilda as an assistant coach after 22 years with the Cats.

After ending his illustrious 332-game AFL career in 2016, Enright moved straight into coaching at Geelong.

But the 40-year-old is on the move to the Saints and will take charge of the club's defence.

The six-time All-Australian defender leaves Geelong after their humiliating 83-point defeat against Melbourne in the preliminary final.

Enright's exit is not expected to be the only change to the Cats' coaching staff as they attempt to challenge again next year.

"I'm proud of what I learned throughout my time at the Cats and am thankful for all the opportunities they've given me," Enright said.

"I believe the Saints have a really exciting young group and I can't wait to get to work."

St Kilda began 2021 with high expectations after finishing sixth last year but missed the finals after a sluggish start to the season.
