Casualty's Cathy Shipton, who plays nurse Duffy, is leaving the BBC One drama 33 years after first appearing in it.
Shipton, who has been in over 350 episodes, will make her final appearance on-screen next year.
She first appeared in Casualty's pilot episode in 1986.
The actress said: "Walking in Duffy's shoes through the years has taught me so much for which I'll be forever grateful. I'm honoured and humbled to have played this inspiring woman. With sadness, but a sense of completion, l say goodbye."
Character Duffy recently left the A&E department at Holby as she copes with dementia, but has continued to play a role in key story lines.
