Catholic Schools Office staff to take industrial action for second time in fortnight

CATHOLIC Schools Office education officers, professional officers, psychologists and administrative staff will hold a second stop-work meeting next week, after the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle announced further changes.

The Independent Education Union (IEU) members will hold the meeting from 3.30pm on Wednesday, when they will protest outside the CSO offices.

They want a guarantee they will be covered by the new enterprise agreement for its full term and not "carved off".

IEU NSW/ACT secretary Mark Northam said the diocese said on Monday that administrative officers in the secretariat would be moved in to shared services and not covered under the agreement from February.

"The church is moving employees from collective agreements onto individual contracts against their wishes."

CSO acting director Gerard Mowbray said the diocese "deeply values" employees' work and their feedback had "formed the basis for ongoing discussions" with the IEU.
