Catherine Tyldesley 'spent 2 weeks eating lettuce' for axed Viewpoint sex scene

Catherine Tyldesley spent two weeks eating just lettuce for a Viewpoint sex scene that ended up on the cutting room floor.

The dedicated actress, 37, went to great lengths to prepare for the X-rated sequence by completely overhauling her diet and "living on lettuce" for a fortnight.

Viewpoint has hooked audiences with its thrilling storyline where school teacher Gemma King vanishes without a trace.

Seemingly inspired by Rear Window, the detective sets up an observation point hidden in a woman's home to watch the missing teacher's boyfriend.

In her role, Catherine played the popular and strong woman Kate Tuckman who organises search parties for the missing teacher.

During Tuesday's This Morning, the Corrie star shared her disappointment when the raunchy scenes ended up being cut.

She said: "I spent two weeks living on lettuce.

"And then I watched it back and I was like, 'Oh, that's it'. That was unusual because we wouldn't take our masks off until a take so kissing with a mask on is all kinds of weird."

Catherine said she even shaved her legs for the scene, something her husband was delighted with.

"I went to shave my legs that morning and my husband went, 'I've not seen shaved legs since week one [of lockdown], this is wonderful!'"

Recently, Catherine delved more into the psyche of her "strong" female character on-screen.

She told Digital Spy : "I love to play strong women. Kate is a very strong woman.

"She portrays this life of perfection, she's an influencer, and the majority of what she puts on social media is seemingly perfect.

"From the outside in, they are a happy normal family, she is the mum at the school gates that always seems to look amazing and you're like 'How does she do it?', everything looks tickety-boo and roses. And it's not."
